The origins of love have long been a subject of philosophical and artistic inquiry—an emotional terrain that music can evoke with both depth and intimacy. This composition forms part of a series of quintets and chamber works for strings and winds inspired by the ancient Indian aesthetic theory of the nine Rasas: a codification of human experience as articulated through artistic expression. "Researching the Origins of Love" embodies Shringara— the Rasa of romantic or erotic love. The work is dedicated to the Canadian glass artist Laura Kaufman Weisbord, whose sensual and luminous visual expression serves as both muse and mirror to the music’s spirit.
